Wifi not working?

Hi all,
I'm a total noob when it comes to modifying the Wii. This is my first attempt. I've been successful doing it with an ipod and routers, etc.
I am having trouble getting everything setup properly.
I have downloaded and installed homebrew via the hackmii v. 1.0 installer, now the problem I'm having is installing the mini version of geexbox that i've downloaded from the website. When I go to bootmii and select the geexbox.elf the splash screen loads and once the bar reaches the end it completely shuts down the Wii. I tried the hex-editing the .elf file and renaming it ppcboot.elf as stated on the installation page, but that only prevents the Wii from functioning completely. Please help me!
I want the mini version because I have files on a modified FAT+ that shares via samba and from what I have read mini geexbox is the only way I will be able to view them on my Wii.
I have also installed geexbox from the homebrew browser, but that does not allow me to see my network files. Even after editing the network settings file to read as follows:
# System's Network Configuration
PHY_TYPE="wifi" # Network physical type (auto|ethernet|wifi)
HOST="" # GeeXboX IP ("" for DHCP)
SUBNET="" # GeeXboX Subnet mask ("" for DHCP)

#STATIC_SMB="<%><@>ip<&>myservername<#>share1"
Have I entered something wrong? I have tried both "Wifi" and "Auto" for PHY_TYPE.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
