External USB Wifi

First off, I just want to say that this project is great, and that when I first purchased my wii never did I imagine that I could use it for DLNA (well, sort of with SMB/NFS).
My question is simple. I've gotten the native wifi working, but the streaming is only OK. I know this is due to the driver in wiilinux only being able to run at a few Mb/s. I've read that the distro you've based geexbox wii on supports external usb wifi devices. I have experimented with different interface identifiers in the network settings file for my chipset (rt73 - Linksys WUSB54GC, which is listed in the hardware compatibility page for WiiLinux), to no avail. I have tried, eth0, eth1, ra0, wlan0, wlan1.
Is there a way to priotize the wifi so that an external usb is chosen over internal, until it's performance catches up? Or for right now can you instruct me on how to DISABLE the internal wifi so my adapter is detected? Thanks
